Biography
Derek Younkman went to Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science in 1989. During college he participated in the Semester at Sea program sponsored by the University of Pittsburgh in 1986 and also attended the Miami University European Center in Luxembourg in 1989. During summers he interned for U.S. Representative Mike DeWine in the Springfield District Office in 1988 and the Washington D.C. Office in 1989.
Derek went to Capital University Law School in Columbus, Ohio and received his Juris Doctor degree in 1993. He was on the Dean’s List many times. During law school he worked as a Law Clerk for Judge Mark S. O’Connor in the Logan County Common Pleas Court in 1992-1993.
Currently, Derek resides at Indian Lake in northwestern Logan County and commutes to the office in Allen County. In addition to Logan County and Allen County he appears routinely in front of the Courts located in Hardin, Hancock, Putnam, Van Wert, Mercer, Auglaize, and Shelby Counties. He has a general civil law practice with an emphasis on real estate, business law, probate administration, estate planning, and litigation related to those areas.
He was admitted to Federal District Court in the Northern District of Ohio in 1996 and does some creditor representation in bankruptcy court. He has three reported cases: Kinkle v. Kinkle (1998) 83 Ohio St.3d 150, 699 N.E.2d 41; Sneary v. Baty (1998) 128 Ohio App.3d 142, 713 N.E.2d 1145; and National City Bank v. Rhoades (2002) 150 Ohio App.3d 75, 779 N.E.2d 799.
